The Name
The name "Beer" (or Bear in English) refers to the Germanic element 'bern' in my name - Bernard Holm: Founder. Owner. Full workforce.
I have been called Beer as long as (my) memory serves. After a brief stint as Die Hout-Beer the name changed to the current Beer Houtwerk / Woodwork.
The beginning
Although woodwork has been a passion of mine since childhood (thanks to 'Pappa Beer'), it only took me an Engineering degree and 6 years in the engineering and steel fabrication industry to realise that it could be more than a hobby. So, I left the comfort of a fixed income and started my own venture. Starting off in a double garage, I have now upgraded to a farm outside of Paarl.
Personalized Approach
As I am the sole employee at BH, I rarely focus on more than two projects or jobs at any one time; one in the shop/site and one in the office. Therefore my clients always have a direct line of communication with me (single point of contact) and their project will be completed by me from enquiry to completion.
My six years in the offshore fabrication industry has taught me valuable lessons in professionalism, project management, communication, fabrication etc, which I strive to apply with every project I undertake. This allows me to deliver quality custom handmade furniture.
